The North American beaver (Castor canadensis) is a native species to North America, explaining the origin of its name. The beaver is the largest rodent in the United States and is competing for the largest rodent in the world. The dams created by this beaver trap pollutants and excess sediment, therefore preserving the floodplain forest in which it resides.
Seabeach amaranth (Amaranthus pumilus) is a tiny plant often found in beach areas around the Atlantic Coast. This species of amaranth is extremely important to the sustenance of beach habitats and is currently marked as a threatened species.
